I made this photo a few years ago during a lovely summer afternoon in Colorado. The sun had just gone behind the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains northwest of Denver, so the clear sky overhead created a very soft, diffused light over the field of sunflowers. I made two exposures: one for the flowers, and one for the colorful clouds. I processed the raw files in Lightroom and then merged them together using Photomatix. A bit of final cleanup and retouching was done in Photoshop. Prints available and comments always appreciated!

High in the mountains near Crested Butte, Colorado, a kayaker floats across the surface of a lake reflecting the bright yellow hues of aspen trees at the peak of autumn colour. I made this image a few years ago, but I’m just now getting to editing photos from that trip! I shot this handheld, using a 70-200mm lens and a 1.4 converter. Prints available; contact me for details. Click to see a larger version.
A field of bright yellow wildflowers looks over the meandering waters of the East River below Gothic Road near Crested Butte, Colorado. This is one of my favorite places to photograph; I usually visit several times every year! Prints available; please contact us to order. (Click for a larger preview)
Multiple streams flow over a sharp drop between two of the myriad lakes within Croatia’s Plitvice Lakes National Park. (Click for larger image) I made this image during a day trip to the park with my wife Ruth. We explored a significant portion of the park, but serious photography was extremely difficult due to the crowds of people everywhere as well as the very sunny weather! Waterfalls very often look their best under cloudy skies, so to make this image I had to wait for a lull in the crowds as well as a cloud over the sun. This national park is absolutely amazing; I’ve never seen any landscape quite like it. It’s got many, many lakes, each formed in a plateau made by seismic activity and erosion. In between each of the lakes is a waterfall. You can see a lot more photos and learn about the park here and here.
